Many people would like to see themselves as Doormen, especially the Martial Arts Enthusiasts. For some strange reason many of the ‘trained’ combatants feel that they are more qualified for the role over someone with little self handling abilities. The position of a Doorman and the lifestyle that accompanies it is something that a lot of ‘wannabe’s’ look for, but not what many people would aspire to if they knew the full story.
The stigma that follows Doormen is one that can be seen as a blessing, but on the otherhand a curse. The idea that the word ‘Doorman’ , or the preverbial ‘Bouncer‘, can instantly engage a reaction from an individual is something that all Doorman look for whether it’s adulation, admiration, lust or envy – it doesn’t matter.
Some believe that becoming a Doorman will bring a certain status along with it. The most common being ‘Notoriety’, the misconception that they will become feared and respected. To become a popular figure and becoming a ‘name’ is something too many can’t resist and the thought of being recognised when merely walking down a street gives some a sense of acceptance. Others perceive the job as being somewhat ‘glamorous’, that it holds a celebrity status and, in some respects, this allures considerable attention from the opposite (or same) sex.
‘Diary of a Doorman – A View from the ‘Other Side’ of the Door’ is a true life, up-to-date blog account of a real Doorman, giving an insight into nightly activities on the ‘door’, detailing first hand experience the scuffles, fights, arguments and the occasional ‘punishment’ that echoes through the night.
